In order to cope with suggestions and wishes of a lot of runners, the „FIDUCIA Baden-Marathon Karlsruhe“ has adopted the City. More than 2.000 finishers of the new marathon course were enthusiastic.
The half marathon course starts off in the South-West of Karlsruhe. It is fast, flat and completely asphalted. The typical Karlsruhe marathon-split is now located around 200 meters before the finish line. Until this mark, the marathon runners can still decide wether to continue on the full marathon or settle for the half marathon course. The second half of the marathon course begins in the traditional runners’ district in the lush greenery of the “Günther-Klotz Park„ and along the banks of the river Alb. The course proceeds over Mühlburg - the old airfield, Knielinger Allee und Hans-Thoma-Straße straight to the Castle of Karlsruhe.
After crossing the Castle Gardens called “Fasanengarten” the course heads towards the City. The runners will cross the main streets and squares of Karlsruhe: Kaiserstraße, Ludwigsplatz, Friedrichsplatz, the Market Square with its Pyramid, all the way to Rondell Square. Finally, after crossing the zoo, the course heads back to the Europahalle.
The second half of the marathon course has short stretches of dirt road and crosses a couple of bridges. It offers a beautiful course, including the Castle and the City in the last third part of the run, when the most runners must be motivated.
The course has been fully DLV-measured and is qualified to belong to the top list of Marathon runs.
